Midnight Mayhem in Kentucky and Epreuve du Nord in Portland, Oregon from May 27th – 30thQuebec City are the "friendly" competitions where we get to bring our old vehicles and as many new members as we can for a couple days of fun. At these The official summer competitions, organized taking place in Kansas and Oregon this year both last four days and we can only bring the car we'll have built by the [[SAE|Society end of Automotive Engineers (SAE)]], the baja will be required to navigate anything from muddy waters to huge boulders and steep hillsthis year.
The competition challenges students to design and fabricate an off road vehicle that can climb a ''30° incline'Day One – Static Events Part I''' and maneuver through a tight course while being cost effective enough to be potentially sold to off road enthusiasts. The events take place over three days, broken down as follows:
On the first day of the competition, the team presents the final product through a sales presentation and the vehicle'''Day One – Static Events'''s engine is tested for illegal modifications.
On the first '''Day Two – Static Events Part II'''The second day of the competition, the team presents the final product through a sales presentation includes technical inspection where professional engineers take measurements and demonstrates to analyze the judges safety our vehicle. Following that their , we present our design cycles while judges asses our engineering approach is the most effective. Then the cars are put through a series of rigorous safety testsand ask questions about different processes.
'''Day Two Three – Dynamic Events'''
The These short events usually consist of rock crawling, hill climbing, acceleration, land maneuverability, and the crowd favourite, suspension and traction. This is a very thorough test of the vehicle’s dynamic capabilitiesbefore the cars get too beat up in the final portion of competition, the Endurance Race.
'''Day Three – Endurance Race'''
The Endurance Race is a four hour free-for-all race with a mass start of around over 100 Baja SAE racersBajas. This race is a huge spectator event with cars trying to put as many laps as possible in the allotted time. The endurance race track includes sections of the suspension and traction course, a mud hole, several wooded sections and numerous jumps. The course is usually about 5 or 6 kilometers long. Usually, less than 5030% of the bajas Bajas make it till the end.
