THERE ARE NO HIGHS WITHOUT LOWS: A story on E-Week 2022's trials and tribulations.

The first 3 stages of grief: Shock, pain, anger

It's December 20th, 2021. You just walked out of your last final exam. You're scared because your GPA might drop, but excited because you now have a reason to train your chugging skills and maintain that sub-GPA time. As you check your phone and ready yourself to rant about the difficult questions on the exam, you realize that Quebec suddenly announces 50% capacity for bars and clubs. There's still hope right? Maybe they'll go back to 100% by the time this Omicron variant dies down... right? Wrong. Everything shuts down. Curfews are reinforced starting December 31st. Schools are online until January 17th, 2022. EXCUSE ME?! As for the coords, they stare into the abyss as their 4 months of hard work disappear in nothingness. Their sponsors and venues reach out to them to sadly declare that they will obviously not be able to accommodate us during Jan. 5th to 9th. We're all in Spain (yay!) without the S (aww...).

The 4th stage of grief: Loneliness and reflection

As the Winter break comes to an end, we all go back to online lectures. You can't exactly ask your crush out on a sTUdY DaTE, but at least you can pin them (?) and play lectures 2x speed... With a heavy heart and incredible helplessness, you and your friends discuss the incredible memories and fun times you could have had during E-Week 2022: Rise of the Villains. Physically and mentally speaking, you're still not in school mode. Your hand always seems to reach for a Sleeman cup and you keep getting flashbacks. Life goes on, I guess...

The last stages of grief: Upward turn, Reconstruction, and Hope

McGill announces the return of in-person classes. Some of us loathe the change of plans. Waking up for your 8:30AM to trek through the wild snowy roads isn't the ideal situation. Some of us see this as a shining light, an opportunity to return to a normal life. Most classes are back in-person. You see your friends here and there and finally go on that study date with your crush (congrats, btw!) as restaurants open back up. The wound caused by E-Week's cancellation has almost healed and you're ready to move on to other things in life.

WE ARE BACK, B*TCHES

THIS IS LIKE TINDER BUT I'M SWIPING TEARS OF HAPPINESS. A SPARK TURNS INTO A FLAME AS THE QUEBEC GOVERNMENT ACCOUNCES FULL CAPACITY OF BARS AND OTHER VENUES BY MARCH 14TH, 2022. As the coordinators buzz with excitement, they quickly shove all their previous plans out the door. E-Week meeting and tasks are a priority. This is happening. We're crying, screaming, and throwing up (but positively).
