The CFES Project Magazine, also known as Promag, was a magazine published by the CFES and distributed to member schools. ProMag was discontinued in 2012 due to a shifted interest in providing an online journal that is more easily accessible. Additionally, the content of ProMag did not any longer satisfy the desires of CFES members. Subsequently, ProMag was replaced by the CFES Publication (also called the Pub), which is an online publication that is focused on promoting the research and super-curricular activities of Canadian undergraduate engineering students. The last public post for the Pub was in 2014. ProMag was revived in 2020 and is being distributed to engineering students across Canada once per year. There ''should'' be at least 5 members serving at the bar at a time; however less are needed in the first hour of Blues Pub on average.

:Certain examples that Aristotle attributes to Democritus and Leucippus clearly prefigure it, but its belated inventor is Gustav Theodor Fechner, and its first exponent, Kurd Lasswitz. [...] In his book The Race with the Tortoise (Berlin, 1919), Dr Theodor Wolff suggests that it is a derivation from, or a parody of, Ramón Llull's thinking machine [...T]he elements of his game are the universal orthographic symbols, not the words of a language [...] Lasswitz arrives at twenty-five symbols (twenty-two letters, the space, the period, the comma), whose recombinations and repetitions encompass everything possible to express in all languages. The totality of such variations would form a Total Library of astronomical size. Lasswitz urges mankind to construct that inhuman library, which chance would organize and which would eliminate intelligence. (Wolff's The Race with the Tortoise expounds the execution and the dimensions of that impossible enterprise.)

The Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES) (Fédération canadienne étudiante de génie in French) is the national association of undergraduate engineering student societies in Canada and exists to organize activities, provide services and interact with professional and other bodies at the national and international level for the benefit of Canadian engineering students. The organization is a bilingual non-profit corporation based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, managed by a volunteer team of engineering students and recent graduates from across Canada.

Representation

Mission Statement

The goal of the CFES is to solicit, represent, organize and exchange views, information and activities pertinent to the goals of the members at a national level as to ensure their moral, intellectual, cultural, academic, social and economic well-being, and to improve the quality and scope of Canadian engineering education. The means by which this will be done are:

  1. Offering bilingual opportunities which foster the development of the following facets of an engineering education:
    • Leadership
    • Professional and Ethical Qualities
    • Engineering Identity
    • Technical Proficiency
    • Communication
  2. Provides representation on issues relevant to engineering students in Canada and affiliate itself with any organization pursuing the same goals,
  3. Promotes the free exchange of ideas and experiences to support the constant evolution of student environments across Canada.

Publications

Keep an eye out for the annual submission form if you want to be featured!

Activities

The EUS VP External is in charge of selecting delegations for these events. Registration forms will appear on the EUS social media and in the Pipeline for them.

Canadian Engineering Competition

Conference on Diversity in Engineering

The Conference on Diversity in Engineering aims to encourage discussion and collaboration between engineering students and professionals around the theme of diversity in engineering. CDE delegates will not only leave the conference with a solid understanding of the issues cultural minorities encounter in the engineering profession, but they will also be equipped to appropriately address these issues.

Conference on Sustailability in Engineering

The Conference on Sustainability in Engineering is a conference around the theme of sustainability in the field of engineering. CSE delegates attend sessions about this topic and get to exchange with professionals and fellow students who care about the environment and the role of engineers in making the future more sustainable. They also have the option to complete a green engineering certification training.

Canadian Engineering Leadership Conference (CELC)

The flagship event of the CFES and formerly known as Congress, CELC serves as both the Annual General Meeting of the Federation, as well as a leadership development forum for engineering students from across Canada. CELC is typically held in the first week of January, spanning a full week of leadership development sessions, informational presentations, guest speakers from industry, a career fair and culminating in plenary, the decision making body of the CFES. At CELC, the CFES National Executive and other officer positions are elected, and bids are made to host other CFES activities.
CELC has two primary functions. First, it is a bilingual annual general meeting for The Canadian Federation of Engineering Students. Delegates discuss student council best practices and bring home actionable ideas to improve the students’ experience in engineering. The second function is to further develop our student leaders; the delegates attend workshops hosted by both experienced students and event sponsors.
