The McGill Society of Petroleum Engineers (MSPE) is a Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, an international organization that offers a platform for technical innovation, knowledge sharing, and networking for engineers interested in the petroleum and energy industry. The primary goal of this student initiative is education. It is our hope that we can supplement the McGill Engineering experience by offering Technical Sessions, Petroleum Technology Introduction Sessions, Guest Speakers, Lunch and Learns with our partners in industry, as well as Q&As from McGill students that have done work terms in industry. The MSPE will also act as a conduit connecting engineers at McGill with our Industry partners to promote industry experiences and establish a continuing relationship to offer opportunities to students for work terms and new graduate placements. The MSPE is always looking for new partnerships with organizations in industry to nurture the development of the McGill Engineering Student population. Industry partners can invest in the future of the industry by reaching out and educating McGill’s new generation of engineers, as well as foster their development through sponsorship of the MSPE.
The MSPE was officially formed in June 2014 while Kevin Zhou and Garrett Bangsboll were in Calgary on internships. The organization began its on-campus presence in September 2014 and has only grown from there. The MSPE became an EUS club at the end of our first academic year in order to become more established within the engineering community as a whole.
