Power hour

A power hour is a type of drinking event that is put on a few times a year by some EUS groups.

Format

A Power Hour follows the basic format of consuming one shot (1 fl. oz.) of beer every minute for 60 minutes. This is equivalent to consuming 5 beers in one hour. Participants are usually put in a large room with sets of tables. Each set of tables has a few facilitators to hand out the beer and the shot glasses during the event. It's rare that everyone drinks exactly 1 shot of beer every minute. The event usually devolves into just casual drinking and dancing after about 30-45 minutes.

Time Keeping

To let participants know when each minute is up a DJ prepares a set of 1 minute samples of 60 songs. In between each song a loud sound is played to alert everyone to take their next shot of beer. Organizers will usually ask participants in the days before the event for song suggestions.

Wetness

Power hours have proven to be a very wet event over the years. Lots of beer and lots of people make for many spills both large and small. It is not uncommon for the majority of participants to be quite wet. Given this, it is highly recommended for participants to wear clothes they don't care about or bathing suits. Also it is recommended to put your phone in a ziplock bag to protect it from the wetness.
